What It's Like to Work With Braille and More

Seton Hill Bassi-Cooke

“I have had the privilege to support several students who are blind and braille users.  We began to work with Patrick and ‘Braille Music and More’ in the fall of 2019.  We explored several vendors and BMaM stood out and was recommended by a respected peer.  Patrick worked with us to meet the needs of the student and the tight schedule demands of the program.  When we had an actuarial math student who used braille, I reached out to Patrick to see if BMaM would be able to support advanced math and science courses.  They could and they did.  His team was responsive to the deadlines we sent, and Patrick was able to support us when, on occasion, a faculty member had forgotten to send us something vital that needed to be transcribed and embossed ASAP.  Having timely access to quality braille allowed our students to thrive academically.

As part of our institutional procedures, we occasionally check to see if our current vendors are still the best fit.  When we sought estimates for continued braille work, we chose to stay with Patrick’s company because the price was competitive and we were happy with the quality and flexibility.

Over the years I have recommended Patrick and his team.  They do so much more than music, and ‘Braille and More’ reflects the scope and quality of the work they do. We currently do not have a student in need of Braille.  If/when we do, I would not hesitate to work with them again.”

“Braille and More has been an invaluable partner in supporting one of our visually impaired flautists in the Manx Youth Orchestra. The availability of high-quality braille music has enabled the player to participate fully in rehearsals and performances alongside their peers.

What has consistently stood out is the speed of turnaround and the excellent communication throughout the process. Requests have always been handled promptly, and it has been reassuring to work with a team that is responsive, knowledgeable, and committed to finding solutions.

The finished braille materials have made a real and tangible difference, helping ensure that our musician has equal access to the repertoire and can contribute confidently to the orchestra. “I am a blind church music director who uses Braille music to direct our adult choir and lead our congregation. I require a transcriber who can deliver high-quality braille and meet regular deadlines. Working with Patrick, my deadlines have always been met, and I have not found an error in the Braille music he has produced. Patrick is also an excellent communicator who responds to emails promptly and has never failed to follow specific instructions when asked. I am one of the few blind church music directors in this country, and I often struggle to gain access to music. I am grateful that Patrick and his company transcribe the music I need. The transcriptions I receive actually allow me to do my job and have access to the scores we use in worship.”

— Julie Orozco, Church Music Director and Braille Reader

“We engaged Braille Music and More to transcribe a number of musical scores that our students needed to study as part of their school curriculum. The scores were subsequently used as reference material during examinations.

Before the project began, our main concerns were the timescales involved in transcribing the music and the overall cost. Patrick was professional throughout every stage of the process, and we were able to work together to establish realistic timelines that met our students’ needs.

Patrick was always approachable, responded quickly to every communication, and provided tremendous reassurance throughout each project. After the most recent transcription was completed, I contacted him with additional questions, and he responded with detailed advice that was extremely helpful.

Most importantly, our students were able to complete their studies successfully, and the support they received is frequently cited as an example of best practice. I would most definitely recommend Braille and More. It is a reliable, professional service that has provided opportunities for students to study music at a very high level.”

He is willing to work closely with our department and with the faculty to ensure that students receive exactly the texts and scores they need to succeed. I feel that working with Patrick is a solid investment for any school’s disability services department.”

“Patrick has been my braille music transcriber since I was in high school, and it’s hard to believe we’ve been working together for almost 10 years. I have had nothing but positive experiences working with him. He has transcribed music for my All-State and college auditions, sight-reading exams, college music theory textbooks, choral pieces, and, as I entered my own classroom, braille music for choir concerts.

Not only does Patrick complete projects in a timely manner, but he is responsive and asks questions along the way to ensure you are receiving music that works for your needs. This shows his passion and care for his work and for the people he builds meaningful relationships with along the way.

I would not be the braille music reader I am today if it were not for Patrick and his support in making braille music materials accessible to me. I highly recommend Patrick and Braille and More for all your braille transcription needs.”

What Braille Specialists Say About Working With Us

Tom Babinszki

“As a blind braille reader and accessibility consultant, I’ve had the opportunity to work with braille produced by many organizations over the years. Having closely followed Patrick’s work for more than two decades, I can say with absolute confidence that Braille and More represents the gold standard in braille transcription services.

What has always impressed me most is the company’s commitment to accuracy and precision. In braille, every dot matters. A single error can affect readability, learning, or learning a language properly. Patrick and his team understand that responsibility and approach every project with the care it deserves.

Beyond the technical excellence, Braille and More is built on integrity. You’re not simply hiring a transcription company—you are partnering with people who genuinely respect the blind community and understand the life-changing importance of literacy, accessibility, and inclusion.

I also had the privilege of working with Patrick during his presidency of the National Braille Association, where I saw that same dedication reflected in his leadership. The values that guide Braille and More are the same values he brings to the profession every day.”

“Working with Patrick and the team at Braille Music and More since 2020 has been an incredibly rewarding professional journey. What truly sets Patrick apart from other clients is his unwavering commitment to quality and his deeply supportive approach to management. He provides clear expectations and trusts his team’s expertise, which gives me immense confidence every time I accept a project. I would highly recommend Braille Music and More to any professional transcriber looking for a collaborative, high-standard environment.

My path to this field began at the Grafton Correctional Institution, where I first learned braille transcription. Transitioning into the professional world can be challenging, but working with Patrick has allowed me to build a meaningful career. This work has opened doors to financial independence while giving me a profound way to give back to the community.

Of all the work we have done, my favorite project was transcribing complex materials for a pharmacy student at a major U.S. University. Knowing that our exact, high-quality braille directly supported someone’s higher education and future career was incredibly fulfilling. For anyone considering learning braille transcription, I would tell them that it requires dedication, but the impact is unmatched. This work is not just a job; it is a vital service that creates true accessibility and changes lives.”

— Michael Gunner, Braille Transcriber

“I began working with Braille (Music) and More in 2021, and it has been a big part of my growth as a professional transcriber. He trusts his transcribers to do quality work and gives us the flexibility to manage our projects independently, which is something I really appreciate.

Working with Braille and More has given me the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, expand my skills, and build relationships within the braille community. Every project brings its own challenges, but that’s part of what keeps the work interesting.

If you’re looking for opportunities to grow as a transcriber while making a meaningful difference, Braille and More is a great place to do that.

“I have been a Braille transcriber for more than 18 years. I began my Braille career after I graduated from a Braille transcription program while incarcerated in a Michigan prison. Less than a year after my release, I had the opportunity to begin working with Patrick at Braille and More. Since then, Patrick has consistently proven himself to be an outstanding employer and an even better person. He holds his team to high standards because he is committed to producing the highest quality Braille products for his customers. Based on my personal experience, I highly recommend Patrick and Braille And More for any Braille related needs. Their professionalism, dedication to quality, and commitment to serving their customers are second to none.”

— Lorenzo Harrell, Braille Transcriber

“I first met Patrick after transitioning out of the Tennessee prison braille program and being accepted into APH’s Braille Transcriber Apprentice Program (BTAP). He was the first person to trust me with a textbook project. After seeing the quality of my work, he proactively increased my pay rate without me even asking because he believed I had earned it. That gesture set the tone for our entire working relationship.

Working with Braille and More has given me sustainable, highly skilled employment and the opportunity to build my own professional business. It transformed a skill I learned through an institutional program into a long-term career.

Patrick is professional, fair, and supportive. He expects high standards of accuracy while treating every member of his team with respect. He’s always available to answer questions, communicates clearly, and creates an environment where quality work can thrive. I would absolutely recommend Braille and More to other professional braille transcribers who value clear expectations, meaningful work, and a management team that genuinely respects the specialized skills required for quality braille production.”

— Adrian, Braille Transcriber
SecondSight Braille Productions LLC

“As an embosser and producer who processes braille and graphics files from Patrick’s team of transcribers, I work to give feedback when I observe graphic designs or braille formats that could use improvement or alignment with published braille standards. I often share techniques I have learned to produce graphics using CorelDRAW software that are easier to read when they are embossed on paper. I appreciate that Braille and More provides opportunities to transcribers who are willing to continue learning and improving their skills. When we help each other improve, everyone benefits, from the transcriber to the braille reader.”

— Rebecca Sherwood, Rain City Braille, LLC

“Contracting with Braille Music and More has pushed me to grow as a transcriber. Their commitment to quality is evident in every project, and working to that standard has sharpened my skills and attention to detail. They treat transcribers with respect, communicate clearly, and produce materials that genuinely support the blind community. I’m proud to contribute to what they do.”

— Anthony Sigala, Braille Transcriber

“Working for Braille and More has completely turned my life around. After being released from prison, I struggled to find employment because of my past. Patrick welcomed me with a fresh start, giving me my first opportunity to transcribe grade books professionally.

While incarcerated, I learned braille, transcribed numerous books, and earned multiple braille certifications. Because Braille and More is willing to hire qualified transcribers coming out of prison, Patrick has helped create a positive path for people who want to build a new life and continue using the skills they worked so hard to develop.

For organizations seeking professional braille transcription and proofreading of educational materials, I can confidently recommend Braille and More. The company is committed to quality, and just as importantly, it believes in giving talented people the opportunity to succeed.”

— Mark A., Braille Transcriber

His upbeat, can-do attitude and commitment to building a true team atmosphere make Braille and More a company I would gladly recommend to other professional braille transcribers.”
